Building STRONG KIDS
Two-year Mimi Wicks is enrolled in the South County Family YMCA Preschool five days a week while her mother, Sibhon Wicks, works and goes to school. Sibhon and Mimi live at Our Mother’s House, and were recently featured in a Herald Tribune article on November 29th. After enduring an abusive relationship, mother and daughter are turning their lives around. The YMCA is helping them do this by providing them with financial assistance that subsidizes 75% of their weekly childcare expenses. Without assistance from the YMCA for childcare, Sibhon would not be able to attend work and school each day.
Last year, the YMCA provided $619,394 in financial assistance to more than 1,300 local families. 87% of this assistance was used to subsidize preschool and school-age childcare. The average annual income of families receiving YMCA financial assistance is $22,250. Won’t you help a child today by making a contribution of any size to the YMCA’s “STRONG KIDS” Annual Community Support Campaign?
You can help today by clicking here for a “DONATE NOW” online option, or pick up a brochure and pledge card at the Venice or Englewood YMCA. At the YMCA, we build Strong Kids, Strong Families and Strong Communities. Thank you.
